The basic issue is, when a great cricketing team like Australia loses a series so miserably, it is absolutely necessary to create some excuses for their domestic media and supporters to save some face
MATHEW HAYDEN had surprised everybody with his "third-world" remark regarding slow over rate. But see that he really did not have any choice.
Do we really understand why Harbhajan Singh had to react to every utterance, non-sense in their own right, from any Australian cricketer? What is also our collective problem when Hayden, one of the greatest cricketers in this era and perhaps one of the best ever decides to defend his bowlers from the issue of slow over rate with phrases like "third world" problem, whatever that means? All of us know that Hayden comes from a country, which is neither first, second, nor third world. We may call it a fourth world country. Is Hayden is going to raise any noise? Absolutely not. In fact Hayden has given another reason for this problem, namely time wasted by Indian batsmen. You see that the match referee was from first world; so Hayden rightly thought that he does not know how to count time. Now poor skipper Ricky, though he started the series with a brilliant innings, which, the poor third world fans could see being third time lucky, is likely to have his career (al lest captaincy) very soon. He has every right to worry about his PF and gratuity and might have threatened his mates that they have to make good the lost money else he will (provided he retains his gaddi) will not take people in playing XI unless they can manufacture enough excuses for his action regarding bowlers used. By the way, Why Ricky had to waste three tests to find Kreja?
Coming to the issue of skirmishes with Indian players during the series, do we recall who were the Indian players involved? Bhajji, Zaheer, Gambhir and Lakshman and (also) Ishant to some extent. Can we all see the connection? They were the most successful ones in the Indian team. The basic issue is, when a great cricketing team like Australia loses a series so miserably, it is absolutely necessary to create some excuses for their domestic media and supporters. So my request to all our friends that are trying to find logic in the statements of these cricketers from Australia today is more fruitless that trying to find water in Mars. One small suggestion from my side. Watson and Johnson were to take the position of spearheading the bowling attack of the Australian side. We appreciate that it was too much to expect from such mediocre bowlers. Therefore we also realise, why they have to almost constantly have to reach the batsmen after every delivery for either for a five second show of eyeball or a ten second obscenity. So for an allotted time of average forty second per ball, we can see where time can be saved. So, my open request to Australian selectors and their cricket lovers / journalist, please ask McGrath, Gillespie, and Warne to come back. The problem will be solved automatically.
