Smoking causes the worst health conditions, better say no to smoking
Umpteen studies have time and again proved that chronic tobacco use is harmful to the brain, heart and other body organs and speeds up onset of Alzheimer's disease. The warning "Smoking is injurious to health" needs to be taken seriously. Smoking really affects the body adversely, once this realisation comes deeply in the consciousness, it becomes the first step towards kicking the habit.

One needs to quit for health reasons. It has been found that several million people across the world experience health problems caused by smoking including various kinds of cancers. According to medical science, smoking causes heart disease, cancer, stroke, lung disease like chronic bronchitis and emphysema, osteoporosis, as well as cataract.

According to Walter S Ross, a cigarette when smoked by a person can do the following things to him or her:

•             Makes heart do 15-20 extra beats per minute

•             Chokes airways, damage air sacs and cause breathlessness

•             Leaves the cancer causing chemicals in the body

•             Corrodes the delicate membrane of lips and palate

•             Deposits dangerous chemicals like hydrocynic acid in the stomach

•             Cuts down the oxygen in the blood stream by absorbing carbon monoxide present in the cigarette smoke

•             Neutralizes the lungs' defences and produce excess mucus

•             Makes the blood clots more adhesive

•             Deposits a smelly tar to cause decay of body organs

•             Umpteen chemical in the cigarette smoke such as aerolein, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, acetone and ammonia can harm the body badly

•             Raises blood pressure by about 10-20 points

Another thing to be kept in mind is that there is nothing like safe level of smoking.  Even smoking cigarettes with efficient filters does not eliminate the risk of adverse health conditions and only marginally reduces the risk.

Real wisdom is in not smoking or in quitting smoking, in case you already are a smoker!
