Smriti Irani launches #IWearHandloom campaign on Twitter
No matter which ministry she is taking care of, Smrit Irani always outshines her opponents and makes headlines. Irani, who was recently appointed as Union Textiles minister, has started a new campaign on Twitter and it's picking up the pace on social media.

The hashtag #IWearHandloom is an attempt by the textiles ministry to encourage and support weavers. Irani has urged people to share their pictures of themselves in handloom textiles, tagging five others.

The minister shared a picture of herself dressed in a handwoven silk saree from Bihar and tagged the Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi.

The hashtag caught on swiftly and people started posting their pictures, making #IWearHandloom trend. Many celebrities including noted fashion designer Manish Malhotra have supported the cause.

Along with the celebrities, the commoners have also taken to the micro-blogging platform and shared their pictures for the noble cause.
