You will need to imagine yourself as a writer even before you become one and ask yourself the question, Is this what I really want to become? Do I really want to become a writer? Nobody can answer it for you except you. It doesn’t happen by chance or overnight. It’s not like you decide one night that you want to be a writer because you found it appealing and the next day, you can declare yourself one. It doesn’t work that way because discovering the writer in you is a process which needs time.
Have you ever felt transported to another universe where life moves at a different pace with a different set of characters? Have you ever felt losing yourself when in the world of fiction? Have you ever wanted to bury yourself in a book while the rest of the world wants to party? Is it books that you shop for when passing the streets? Is it books that turn you on? If you have answered yes, you are definitely a lover of books which is important if you want to be a writer. If reading a book does this to you, it's obvious that you love books which is the first step to writing. By all means, if you want to be a writer, you’ll need to be an ardent lover of books.
If given a choice to spend a day on your own, and if you are the kind who would chose to stay locked up in your room with your eyes scanning novels, you can pat yourself because you are one of those people who have interest for stories that are described through words. Now that you have realized you love to read books, you would want to know if you are the kind of person who has the itch to create them as well. If you read a book that made you wonder in awe and you appreciated the writing and if it was just about that, then you are a person interested in reading and you are content with it. Say after you read a book, you had this undeniable urge to create a story by yourself, say you have a story you want to share with the world, then writing is definitely for you.
