Society at large not ready to donate blood: Lions club, Gurgaon
India is one of the leading countries in traffic fatalities and yet people here don't come forward easily to donate blood, forcing various agencies to take the assistance of multinational corporations and hospitals to sensitise the people.

LIONS CLUB, Gurgaon recently held a blood donation camp in the city with the collaboration of a real estate company and Medanta hospital. When asked why they need to tie up with MNCs and hospitals, Sandeep Kumar, zone chairman of Lions Club said that the assistance helps them to get donors in the form of employees and related people.

"Society at large is not ready to donate blood and as individuals people hesitate to come forward for the cause. That is why we take help and assistance of these organisations who motivate their own people for the cause," Mr. Kumar told this citizen journalist .

Lions Club, Gurgaon organises many kind of camps including blood donation camps in the Millennium City, at least five to six times a year. "We do this because in our country sadly mostly people die due to unavailability of blood and this is something very unfortunate,” Mr. Kumar rued.

The organization is planning to hold more camps in various parts of the city. “We are going to organise many more such camps in sector 14 market which will also include general check-up and eyesight check-up for the unprivileged people of the city,” Mr. Kumar informed.

Lions Club, which has been operating in Gurgaon for last 35 years, has two check-up centres in the city where eye check-up is done free of cost. “We do free check-ups every Tuesday at Katarpuri centre and Saturday at the centre near Chiteshwar temple. Then we take patients to the city's hospital and get them operated upon without taking any money,” Mr. Kumar added.

The club arranges money from its members only and doesn’t take donations from outside. "We are prepared for coming many years to continue with these causes and we are planning to expand our network also,” Mr. Kumar informed.
