ACTRESS SOHA Ali Khan’s gun license was revoked today as the actress was found guilty of suppressing material facts. However, no criminal action would be initiated against the actress as the file pertaining to the issue of license has been missing from official records.
The license has been cancelled under section 17(8) of the Indian Penal Code. Soha can however make appeal against the order within thirty days.
The license had came under scrutiny after a RTI application revealed that it was obtained by the actress, when she was a minor and not legible to get a license. Addressing media persons, Rakesh Gupta, deputy commissioner, Gurgaon said that the administration has decided to revoke the license with immediate effect. He said that it has been conclusively proved that Soha Sultan had not attained the legal age of 21 years at the time of obtaining the license. Also, the actress had failed to inform the administration about the status of weapons, which had been listed on the license, as the matter was subjudice. While license of the actress is revoked, the Gurgaon administration has also recommended action against the Jhajjar Police, which failed to provide report regarding the status of license held by the actress. “Jhajjar Police did not give us adequate information and the matter shall be reported to the Home department,” said the deputy commissioner. He admitted that since the file pertaining to the issue of license is missing, a number of issues could not be investigated by the authorities. It was also revealed that despite an inquiry by the assistant deputy commissioner, no headway could be made into locating the file or pinpointing those responsible for its disappearance. Since, it could not established whether the actress had willfully suppressed the information regarding her age, no legal action could also be initiated against her, the deputy commissioner informed. When asked what would be the status of two weapons listed on the license, Gupta said that one of the guns has been sold by the actress, whereas another is lying in police custody in connection with the case. Meanwhile, Soha Ali Khan’s lawyer, Vishav Mohan Arya, said that the actress had neither suppressed nor submitted wrong information to the licensing authority. “After going through the copy of the judgment, we will take appropriate legal action and that could include filing an appeal under section 18,” he added.
