It is a well known fact that inhalation of dust and related particles causes respiratory problems. Suggested in this article are some precautionary methods, which can help a person living a healthy life.
DUST DRIFTING in the air cause health hazards for the general commuting people. Muddy roads and muddy surface emit lots of dust in the air. These emissions are mainly caused by:
- blowing of wind in different directions during dry season
- whenever light or heavy commercial vehicles pass through - whenever construction materials such as sand or soil dug out from the construction areas are kept in the open exposed - Vehicles using petrol and diesel emit carbons, which also take the form of spreading and settling down as fine dusty layers
- Brick kiln factories, cement factories and those industries that are not properly adhering to the general safety measures suggested by environmental experts release dusts into the air People commuting from these areas are exposed to health hazards due to the presence of dust particles in the air. Additionally, dust keep flowing till they settle down somewhere on leaves or branches of close by trees, roof tops of close by buildings, if windows are kept open, it penetrates inside the household and settles down on carpets or on furniture or on walls. Advanced countries take special care and attention on this issue. They ensure in most of the public places not to leave any surface open which is mud covered. Either most of the mud-covered surfaces are made green by planting of grass or landscaping them nicely into gardens or by laying concretes on top of mud-surface. These countries also ensure that houses are encouraged to make best use of open spaces having mud-surface by greening them with proper grass and other plantation. During rainy seasons, these plants get water in plenty for their survival; during dry season community ensure sufficient watering is done regularly to keep the plants healthy. Concerned people must take the above seriously and act upon by doing everything to ensure that muddy surfaces are taken care of either by planting these areas with proper regular watering or laying concrete structures upon them. Environment Ministry should do everything to ensure that dusty particles floating in the air are brought down to the bare minimum taking a cue from the above. Some cities in India have successfully done away with diesel run public vehicles by switching over to CNG gas mode which has reduced the pollution levels in air – perhaps, a law mandating all public vehicles to be switched over to CNG mode can be helpful in controlling the air pollution. Once a proper study is done by the expert group, there will be a better understanding of this problem to enable the policy makers for taking corrective measures.
