New Year Day (NYD) is the most celebrated day worldwide, and is the time at which a new calendar year begins with an incremented count. In most countries and cultures, the event is celebrated in some joyful manner. NYD of the Gregorian calendar falls on January 1, which has been accepted for use globally, and so is the NYD celebration.
It took quite a long time before first January became the start of the civil year globally. In India, Now, even in India, NYD is one of the most popular occasions in India to celebrate after Diwali and Holi. It has assumed the status of a festival. Many people throughout India celebrate this festive occasion with friends, relatives, loved ones or in large gatherings and groups called 'Nav Varsh Milan' or New Year Get-Together.
People greet and wish each other 'Happy New Year' on the NYD up to a few weeks later. Exchanging messages and greetings is another most important tradition to herald the New Year.
