Some selected funny quotes for New Year Eve party toasts
The Gregorian calendar is accepted worldwide now and the New Year occurs on January 1 - also called New Year's Day.

Most countries celebrate the New Year Eve and New Year's Day and in many countries the first day of January is celebrated joyously and is often marked as a national holiday.

In many countries, New Year's Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, family get togethers, watching TV shows, dance parties, drink-and-dine parties and fireworks to mark the new year. It is customary to let celebrations go on past midnight into New Year's Day, January 1. Thus, the New Year is the time at which the first day a new calendar year begins and its count increases by one.

At social gatherings, the New Year is a time for change marked by celebrations, parties, speeches and toasts. At times, the toasts and speeches on the occasion require funny quotes to enliven them.

Here are some such quotes:

"New Year's is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls and humbug resolutions." ~ Mark Twain

"Making resolutions is a cleansing ritual of self-assessment and repentance that demands personal honesty and, ultimately, reinforces humility. Breaking them is part of the cycle." ~ Eric Zorn

"A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other." ~ Anonymous

"New Year's Day…now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual." ~ Mark Twain

"An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves." ~ Bill Vaughan

"New Year's Resolution: To tolerate fools more gladly, provided this does not encourage them to take up more of my time." ~ James Agate
