Sonia Gandhi undergoes shoulder surgery at Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital
Congress president Sonia Gandhi underwent a surgery on her dislocated left shoulder on Thursday at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) in Delhi. A team of doctors, including Dr Sanjay Desai, who recently operated on Shah Rukh Khan's knee, and SGRH's Dr Prateek Gupta conducted the operation.

The fracture occurred during a rally in Varanasi on Wednesday, where she collapsed in the midst of the rally, because of which the humerus, the largest bone in arm, was fractured and dislocated.

She was immediately brought to the national capital and was admitted at Army Research and Referral Hospital. Then on Wednesday night she was shifted to SGRH.

Dr. DS Rana, Chairman, SGRH Board of Management said that Sonia Gandhi was recovering after the surgery and would be shifted out of the ICU soon.

He said, "Mrs Sonia Gandhi is making steady progress towards recovery from illness. All her health parameters are showing improvement and she is soon going to be shifted out of the ICU," Times of India reported.

Apart from the shoulder injury, the Congress president suffered from dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra are with Sonia Gandhi since Thursday morning. Various Congress leaders, including Raj Babbar and Sheila Dikshit, also visited the Congress president at the hospital.
