Sooraj Pancholi charged with abetment in former girlfriend Jiah Khan's suicide
Jiah Khan who had shot to fame with her performance in the film 'Nishabd' starring Amitabh Bachchan was found hanging by her mother Rabiya Khan on June 3, 2013 at her Juhu residence in Mumbai.

Sources had revealed that she had been staying at Sooraj Pancholi's house the last two days prior to her death.

A sessions court in Mumbai on Tuesday framed charges against actor Sooraj Pancholi for abetting the suicide of his girlfriend actor Jiah Khan. According to the CBI, Sooraj Pancholi had "hidden facts and fabricated information" during the interrogation as reported by sources.

The 27-year-old Pancholi has been charged under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC which attracts a minimum punishment of 10 years of imprisonment.

Sooraj Pancholi is the son of Bollywood couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab. He had also refused to undergo polygraph or brain-mapping tests which were supposed to be conducted by the investigating agency to unearth the truth.

Aditya Pancholi has clarified that the family is not worried about their son's abetment in the case and said that they had been waiting for the day since four- and-a-half years.

During a media interaction, the the 52-year-old actor said, "We are very happy [that the trial is beginning]. We have been waiting for this day for the past four-and-a-half years. Now the real trial begins, now we will fight the actual fight. If we are guilty, Sooraj will be punished; and if we are not, then Sooraj will be set free."

In a conversation with Spotboye, Aditya Pancholi was quoted as saying, "Imagine this. Sooraj buys a rope, gives it to Jiah to strangulate herself and then pulls off the chair beneath her feet. My son can never do such a thing. Let me say it point-blank. Sooraj is totally innocent."

Jiah Khan had left behind a suicide note, which accused Sooraj of ruining her life. A three-page hand written note by Jiah Khan was seized by the Mumbai Police, in which she had narrated about her "intimate relationship, physical and mental abuse" by Sooraj Pancholi. The letter was neither signed nor addressed to Sooraj Pancholi, but it accused him.

Rabiya Khan, Jiah's mother had moved the Bombay High Court alleging her daughter's murder, seeking a CBI enquiry, which was granted.
