Former Indian cricket captain and 'Prince of Kolkata' Sourav Ganguly has retired from all form of competitive cricket. However, he announced his retirement from international cricket on October 7, 2008.
FORMER INDIAN cricket captain and "Prince of Kolkata" Sourav Ganguly has retired from all forms of competitive cricket. Earlier, he had announced his retirement from international cricket on October 7, 2008, at the beginning of the home test series against Australia in Bangalore.
Earlier on January 8 and 9 during the IPL auction in Bangalore, none of the IPL franchises bid for former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Sourav Ganguly for his base price at 400,000 dollar. Last week the Kochi franchisee showed their interest in Ganguly but three franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals opposed to the Team Kochi's move to sign up the former Indian captain.
Sourav Ganguly, who is also famous as "Dada" told an English news channel, "I have already retired from international cricket. I was playing Ranji cricket only to stay fit for IPL. I see no possibility of playing IPL now. I don't see any point in continuing playing cricket."
Sourav Ganguly debuted in test cricket at Lord's on June 20, 1996 against England and scored a hundred. In his 113 test long cricket career, he scored 7212 runs with an average of 42.17 with 16 hundreds and 35 fifties. His highest individual score was 239 runs.
During his 311 matches one day career, Dada scored 11363 runs including 22 hundreds and 72 fifties with an average of 41.02 and who is one of the three players in the ODI cricket history with a unique record of 10,000 runs, 100 wickets and 100 catches.
Sourav Ganguly led the team India in 49 Test matches, out of which India won in 21 matches and has been considered as the most successful Test captain of India.
