IN THE 44th match of the Indian Premier League 2011, former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is coming back in the IPL against Mumbai Indians for Pune Warriors at the ground of Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, May 4.
Pune Warriors, the latest team in the IPL, has lost six matches in a row and the Warriors has no option but to win its next six matches - including tonight's match - to qualify for the last four. It will be interesting to see how the rich experience of Sourav Ganguly will help Pune Warriors in the IPL 2011.
The Yuvraj Singh-led Pune Warriors won its last match in the IPL on April 13th against Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings has won twice against Pune Warriors. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals have also won against Pune Warriors.
For the Pune team, batting is strong on paper but in all the matches most of the batsmen failed to contribute for the team except for Yuvraj Singh, who is the only player to have got runs consistently. Jesse Ryder has also played some good knocks in a of the matches.
In bowling, Warriors has some good bowlers such as of Jerome Taylor, Wayne Parnell, Thomas Alfonso, Murali Kartik and Rahul Sharma, but none of them has been impressive so far.
Mumbai Indians is performing consistently in the IPL 2011. Sachin Tendulkar-led Mumbai Indians has won six matches and lost two out of eight matches the team has played. It's at the second spot in the points table after Kolkata Knight Riders.
Mumbai Indians has two batsmen in the top ten leading run getters list in the IPL 2011. Captain Sachin Tendulkar has already scored 327 runs, and he is the top scorer in the IPL 2011. Ambati Rayudu is also scoring consistently and has scored 263 runs. He is on the seventh place in the top batsmen in the on-going season of the IPL.
In the bowling department Lasith Malinga has bagged 19 wickets so far in the IPL 2011, and is seven wickets ahead than his nearest rival in the leading wicket taker list in the IPL 2011. Harbhajan Singh and Munaf Patel, so far, have taken nine wickets each in this edition of the IPL.
