SOURAV GANGULY, the former Indian captain has been named as the captain of the Kolkatta Knight Riders (KKR) team for the next year's Indian Premier League, replacing New Zealand's Brendon McCullum. Dave Whatmore will be the coach for the KKR, who had recently quit from the post of director of operations.
The KKR management had held many meetings over the last few weeks to discuss the plan as to how to move forward. It is believed that Dada, played a very important role in the entire vision and decision making process for the season ahead. Whatmore said that he was very optimistic about the season ahead and had utmost faith in Ganguly, the team and the management. He added that he looked forward to a successful stint and will be closely working with the team to continue building the KKR team into a successful franchisee both on and off field.
Ganguly after being announced as the captain said that KKR was looking forward to an exciting and successful season ahead with the new appointments and strageties in place. He was quite excited at the prospect of working with Whatmore and the entire team in addition to playing at the home grounds once again.
Whatmore will have Vijay Dahiya as his assistant and Wasim Akram as mentor. Andrew Leipus and Adrain le Roux will play the role of physiotherapist and team's trainer respectively.
