South Asian Games 2016 conclude: With 308 medals India bags the top position
Host India emerged as top performer in the XII South Asian Games. India also dominated the final day of the competitions in the South Asian Games. Four events were held on the last day of the judo competition and the Indians put up a dominating show once again to finish on a high.

The South Asian Games were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5th February in Guwahati. A total of 2,672 athletes competed in 226 events conducted at 26 venues across the cities of Guwahati and Shillong.

India won a total of 308 medals (Gold - 188, Silver - 90, Bronze - 30). Sri Lanka bagged the second position with a total of 186 medals (Gold - 25, Silver - 63, Bronze - 98). While Pakistan got the third position with 106 medals (Gold - 12, Silver - 37, Bronze - 57).

This was a great achievement by India, in the previous edition of the game, which were held in 2010, India has won 175 medals in total. London Olympics bronze-medalist M.C. Mary Kom (51kg), former world champion L. Sarita Devi (60kg) and Asian Games bronze winner Pooja Rani (75kg) picked up the top honours in their respective categories.
