Speakers at IIM-Shillong event urge India, China to collaborate with each other for combined progress
IIM Shillong welcomed the fifth batch of its Post Graduate Programme for Executives - Managing Business in India and China (PGPEx-MBIC) with speakers making a plea for both India and China to learn from and collaborate with each other for combined progress of both the countries and help resolve problems, which confront both the nations like those of the urban slums.

The ceremony was hosted by Dr. Rohit Dwivedi, Chairperson of PGPEx-MBIC, who elaborated on the importance of PGP Executive MBIC and its differentiation from other International business programs.

He also said that "Education needs to focus not only on business studies, but should also be sensitive towards the cultural and moral aspects of the host nations."

Prof. Santosh Prusty from IIM Shillong started the inauguration ceremony with an invocation by chanting a Mantra on Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, a philosophy that inculcates an understanding that the whole world is one family.

The Guest of Honor for the inauguration ceremony were Prof. Ni Shixiong, Professor of International Relations, Fudan University and Prof. Lou also from Fudan University. Prof. Shixiong, an expert on America-China relations spoke on the importance of having such programs that focus on the economic, cultural, and business relations between two of the greatest economies and the power center of Asia to the rest of the world.

He also gave his insights to the batch on learning, urged them to always have a positive outlook in life and that one's efforts to work harder than before at any age should be the goal.

Prof. Amitabha De, Director IIM Shillong, while welcoming the new batch of 31 participants and the Chief Guest, emphasized that the participants are the brand ambassadors of the Institute and the Country.

He also talked on the importance of peace and harmony for the development and healthy relations between the two nations. Speaking on subsequent rounds of discussions with the new batch of PGPExecutive 2016-17, Dr. Aravind Yelery, Assistant Director & Associate Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), explained how economies can capitalise on historical approaches and extract relevant historical facts that enable a nation to progress ahead.

The 14-month PGPExecuive on Managing Business in India and China (MBIC) is a General Management Program that has been designed by IIM Shillong and partnered with the Ocean University China (OUC), Qingdao. It is a fully residential programme spread across IIM Shillong and OUC campus.The fifth batch of the programme has participants from varied range of industry such as IT, Healthcare, Power, Energy and Infrastructure, Aviation etc.

The structure of the programme primarily aims at providing individuals an opportunity to learn time-tested general management principles as well as current best practices relevant for conducting trans-national business with focus on practical learning through internships and industry visits in both the countries.
