Special educators and trainees from Haryana on educational tour to Jaipur
Forty odd special educators and trainees associated with Tapan Rehabilitation Society of Karnal, Haryana are in Jaipur for a two-day educational tour. Besides site seeing, they are also visiting some institutions established for education of children with special needs.
On the first day of their tour on March 24, they spent a few hours in the forenoon at Disha - A centre for multiple disabilities. They visited classrooms, therapy units, library, & teacher education units and interacted with the functionaries of the organization to exchange views and learn from each other.
“Karnal-based Tapan NGO was established in 1994 to cater to children with special needs who are learning disabled; speech & hearing impaired; mentally challenged; autistic, or are suffering from cerebral palsy cases. The NGO imparts functional academics along with parallel intervention with allied therapies depending on the needs of the children. The regular school curriculum is seen as a vital reference point for students who have potential to be included in a regular classroom or join the open school program,” said the accompanying special educator Sharma.
Sharma also said that the mentally challenged young adults are provided with job oriented training or self-employment training as part of a vocational training. This is done in order to help them to rehabilitate successfully.
The children friendly architecture of Disha, school environment and deemed research were impressive & needed to be integrated with the education of differently abled children.
