SPINELESS BOWLING from the Indian seamers let Sri Lanka to declare at a mammoth score of 642 losing only four wickets in the first innings of the second test match being played at Colombo.
Starting from the score of 313 for two on the second day of the match, the Sri Lankan batsmen KC Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene played their natural game. Sangakkara put every effort and played a captain inning scoring 219 hitting 29 fours all over the ground. His was the first wicket today to see the pavilion when he threw his wicket to Virender Sehwag giving a simple catch to Rahul Dravid fielding at the slip. The fourth wicket was down when Mahela Jayawardene was caught by Suresh Raina on the spin bowling of Harbhajan Singh; Mahela scored 174 with 20 fours and 1 six. SL captain was waiting for Mahela's score to reach 200 as soon as possible to declare the innings so that they could put India to bat in the late overs to put pressure on the already-in-pressure Indian batting after losing the first test match with poor batting and spike-less bowling performance.
But as soon as Mahela Jayawardene was out Sangakkara declared the innings to take test of the Indian batting performance again. This was poor bowling of Indian seamers and spinners which let the SL batsmen to score one double century and two tons with two half centuries.Opener NT Paranavitana also scored 100 while TM Dilshan and TT Samaraweera both reach more than fifty runs. Now it is interesting to see how M S Dhoni's team faces the bowling of Mendis, Fernando, Randiv, Prasad and Mathews minus Muthiah Muralidharan, who retired from the test matches in the last game being the highest wicket taker in this format of cricket.
