Sports is important for development of a child, says Rotary Public School Principal
The Annual Sports Day for Rotary Public School in Sector 22, Gurgaon, took place today. The Chief Guest for the day was former Indian women hockey team captain, Pritam Siwach. Their principal, Gulshan Dewan spoke with merinews.com about the sports extravaganza.
GULSHAN DEWAN, Principal of Rotary Public School in Sector 22, Gurgaon, was in a joyous mood after their Annual Sports Day, which started in a positive frame of mind. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Pritam Siwach, former captain of the women's Indian Hockey team. The principal has always given special attention to various sports that students participates in, and while speaking to merinews.com she said, “Sports plays a very important role in the development of the child and we have to look into that aspect too”.
The school, which boasts a student strength of around 2100 students, tries to make sure that there is maximum participation. But it's understandable that not everyone can participate. Dewan said, ”Around 700 students participated in the event this year”. There were various events where the students could participate such as parade, P. T display, and dance, etc. It was a visual delight to see children of various age groups taking part in the event, which was a colourful affair. It also brought a smile upon the faces of the VIPs seated on the location.
One of the main attractions of the event were the track and field events in which students tried their best to turn out triumphant. Similarly, a student of XI standard, Amit Aggarwal, who wants to be an athlete, was victorious in the 100 and the 200 metres race, along with the long jump. He said, “I had been practising daily for a span of 4 hours, so I am proud of my victory”. During his training, there were several coaches in the school, who helped him during practise.
There were parents who had come to watch their son and daughters participate in the event. There were some parents like J.K. Yadav, who has his son Rahul Yadav, in sixth standard, and said, “My son participated in march past only as he could not make it to other races”. Still, he came to encourage his son in the event he participated. It is necessary that parents back their children to do well in various activities of life. He maintained that, “Both sports and academics should go hand in hand”.
Apart from these events, there were other attractions such as Tug of war, Cycle race (for juniors), etc. The school has a decent record in the inter-school competitions too. Dewan said, “Judo has brought laurels to the school too, with students putting up fine display”. The sponsor for the function was Reebok. The students after the prize distribution were all smiles as they were clicking pictures with friends so as to make this day an unforgettable one.
