Squeezed between Aussie street devils and Indian pundits!
Most culprits could not be traced as assaults happened in lonely stretches at odd hours. It was for Indian government's pundits to guide students on the do's and don'ts of avoiding assaults. Instead, their hysterical noises aggravate the situation.
THE BODY of Ranjodh Singh, a 25-year-old farm-hand in Australia, arrived at New Delhi in a Thai Airways flight to be received by a VIP dignitary. It was Preneet Kaur, Minister of State for External Affairs. She laid a wreath on the coffin.

It had taken close to a month for the body to come to India after being found in late December. Although MEA claimed to have 'facilitated' the operation, it was obvious that the only efforts were to pass some travel bills of ministry officials, who had no role to play.

Ranjodh’s death in Australia came on the back of numerous attacks over the last two years on Indians by rowdy elements. The victims were usually intercepted, bashed up and robbed by young thugs. The assaulters were however presumed to be local toughies and, in some cases, immigrants from Arab countries.

Even in the only fatal assault so far, when a 21-year-old Nitin Garg was stabbed to death as he walked to work in Melbourne, the culprits have remained untraceable. In the case of Ranjodh's murder, however, the police could zero in on a husband and wife team, both Indian nationals.
Young Indians flock to Australia every year braving increasingly tough restrictions about language proficiency, financial capacity etc. Their plight at the hands of ruffians in the alien land while attempting to make an honest living deserves sympathy. The misfortune has however been worsened by the Indian Media which mounted a hysterical campaign to create a big sensation. Incitement of gullible Indians to condemn everything Australian led to vicious violence.

New Delhi's foreign affairs establishment too has failed to address the issue appropriately. In fact, ever since the first Prime Minister fancied himself to be a statesman of international stature and set up an unwieldy foreign office, it has acted tactlessly. There was a time when every newly independent nation accepted India’s preeminent position and sought its guidance. Soon, many of them did much better than India while India squandered its healthy gold reserves and slipped into virtual bankruptcy. Even as India’s clout has been plummeting, the pundits have managed to keep the Nehruvian officialdom bloating.

I'm a security guard at a large factory...all job applications have to be handed to me...out of all the races I have to deal with Indians have the highest proportion of rude arrogant people who don't follow directions and talk down to people as if they are dirt...put that bad attitude together with living in Melbourne with the asian gangs and Lebanese migrants and your asking for trouble...bad mouth a Lebanese and he will come back with twenty family members and beat the crap out of you...seen that happen too many times when I was a teenager in Melbourne...reading the absolute racism, lies and abuse of Australians by the Indian media makes me have serious thoughts about ripping up and throwing in the bin any job applications from Indians...just about had a gut ful of getting blamed for something not in my control and being called a racist...you reap what you sow and the Indian media with its lies and racist attitudes and half truths is sowing an awful lot of hatred...out of all these attacks on Indians how many happened because of the bad attitude and bad mouths of a lot of Indians and the way they treat other people...that is not racism that is reality...you treat someone bad they will smack you in the head especially if they are teenagers...keep stirring the pot and things will only get worse...surprised you didn't highlight the fact that young Singh was killed by three Indian nationals...the cowardly way he was killed by burning him alive is not something done here but if you read the Indian media it seems to be quite common over in India...maybe you should give classes on how to be civilized before you let any Indian nationals leave for another country
The portion inadverdently remain unpublished: In keeping with their record elsewhere, ministers and bureaucrats of MEA have contributed in aggravating the difficult Australian situation. They could have guided the students on the do's and don??????ts of avoiding such assaults. They could have extended whatever cooperation was possible to authorities to take preventive and deterrent actions. Instead, they have started issuing veiled threats reminding the government that Indian students contributed a big chunk in revenues. On the other hand, everyone knows that these ??????students?????? enjoy a much better quality of life there because they are able to make quite a decent living, doing odd jobs. Praneet Kaur once again demonstrated that the powers-that-be in India are worse enemies of Oz-bound emigrants than even the street urchins there. The 'Honourable' minister thundered: "It is not acceptable and the Indian government will do whatever is required!?????? She added, "We are discouraging Indian students to go to Australia" and recalled that her ministry has put out an advisory asking students not to go to Australia for studies.?????? The official advisory from MEA has asked Indians studying in Australia and those planning to do so to take extra security precautions while moving around in that country. It says, ??????There have been several incidents of robbery and assault on Indians in Australia, particularly in Melbourne, which has seen an increase in violence on its streets in recent years. . . often accompanied by verbal abuse, fuelled by alcohol and drugs.?????? How many of the aspirant students would listen to the minister to shun Australia is anyone??????s guess. For one thing, India offers little scope to youngsters who do not have high connections and do not want to be criminals. Even Kaur knows how criminals and antisocial elements have been monopolizing legislatures and Parliament and becoming ministers! Moreover, India is more unsafe for Indians than Australia, as Simon Overland, Police Chief Commissioner of Victoria quipped on hysterical noises. As long as the rulers refuse to see this ugly reality and make amends, it is unlikely that any youth desiring to flee the situation would give a second glance to this second advisory. He/she would make every effort to go there by hook or by crook and settle there if possible. It could be as a genuine student doing a job on the side or as a cabbie/ delivery boy/attendant posing as a student in any weird field.
