Sri Sri asks for 4 weeks time from NGT to pay fine of Rs.5 crore
After denying to pay a fine of Rs.5 crore imposed by the National Green Tribunal, now Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's Art of Living Foundation, which terms itself as a "non-governmental organisation," has moved its application in front of the NGT, asking at least four weeks time to pay the penalty and comply with the demands of the environmental body. Earlier, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said that he would prefer jail over paying the fine.

National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Art of Living Foundation to pay Rs 25 lakh on Friday and the remaining Rs 4.75 crore in three weeks. If the foundation fails to pay Rs 25 lakh by Friday evening, the green tribunal threatened to freeze the Rs 2.5 crore grant given to it by the Ministry of Culture.

The World Culture Festival is going to be organized on the Yamuna floodplains from March 11-13 after it got clearance from National Green Tribunal (NGT). But the court's go ahead came up with fines and conditions.

NGT has slapped an initial fine of Rs. 5 crore to compensate the damage caused due to construction activity on the flood plains of Yamuna. The court also asked the Art of Living Foundation to give an undertaking by Thursday that enzymes would not be released into Yamuna river and no further degradation of environment will happen.

The tribunal has also fined Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi Pollution Control Board with Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively for failing to discharge their duty.

The World Culture Festival 2016 is a celebration of The Art of Living's 35 years of service to humanity, spirituality and human values. The festival claims to celebrate the diversity in cultures from across the world while simultaneously highlighting unity as a human family.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to open the three-day World Culture Festival that will feature yoga and meditation sessions, peace prayers and cultural performances.
