Sridevi cremated with full state honours in Mumbai
Teary eyed fans, family members, Bollywood celebs, politicians and public bade their final goodbye to Sridevi, 54, who had died due to drowning in the bathtub of her hotel room in Dubai on Saturday, February 24.

Her funeral took place on 28 February with her pyre being lit by her husband and film producer Boney Kapoor.

In the morning hours, the mortal remains of Sridevi, wrapped in red and golden Kanchivaram saree, were kept at Celebrations Sports Club in Lokhandwala for paying of final respects by the public.

She was given state honours at her funeral by the Maharashtra government which included draping her body in the national Tricolour; giving her gun salute before the cremation and making arrangements to manage crowds and controlling traffic.

It has been reported that Sridevi's funeral was marked with one of the biggest number of mourners in a funeral procession seen in recent times. Her final journey had thousands of jostling teary mourners trying to get a glimpse of her cortege covered with white flowers as it moved to the Vile Parle crematorium.

The housing complex where Sridevi resided, Green Acres Co-operative Housing Society, has cancelled Holi celebrations as an extended mourning period, it is learned.

However, some intellectuals in Jaipur have not liked the idea of according state honours to the funeral of film celeb which is often reserved for those who make sacrifice for the country.
