SRK to become a trademark soon

Advertisers or any other marketing company will not be able to use the initials 'SRK' freely as Shahrukh Khan has filed to trademark his initial. This trend in India was set was Sachin Tendulkar and now Shahrukh has followed his footsteps.

BADSHAH OF Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, who has become a brand over the years has recently sent an application to the trademark registry that his often used initials shouldn't be used without his permission, which means SRK might be a valuable property very soon.

Explaining the actor's move to ANI, a source close to the actor said, “SRK has become bigger with every project. He has taken this decision after a lot of thought. Career wise it is a great decision to safeguard his brand.” Earlier Sachin Tendulkar had applied for the same to trademark his name SRT and when Vidhu Vinod Chopra needed to use the cricketer in his flick Ferrari Ki Sawaari, he had to seek Sachin's permission.

This trend of trademarking a particular word, catchphrase or name is very popular in Hollywood and one can see that it is slowly creeping into Bollywood as well. Recently in Hollywood rockstar Beyonce and husband Jay-Z tried to trademark their daughter Blue Ivy's name. However, the trend started long before when Paris Hilton trademarked her favorite catch phrase 'That's Hot.' A number of people followed her example but not everyone succeeded as Donald Trump was not able to trademark his catchphrase 'you're fired' nor was Charlie Sheen able to trademark any of his 22 phrases.
