With the expected arrival of star campaigners, read political heavyweights, campaigning in the state elections in Assam is expected to rise to the occasion. Most parties in Assam have hired helicopters to canvass in as many areas as possible.
WITH THE expected arrival of star campaigners the election campaigning scenario is likely to gain new temp and colour in the state elections in Assam. For a start, most parties have made provision for a helicopter for the star campaigners.
The ruling Congress kicks off its campaigns tomorrow, and will be using helicopters to cover as many constituentcies as possible.
Party sources said that initially 2 helicopters would be used to reach various places. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi,APCC President Bhubaneshwar Kalita, a few senior ministers and Central leaders will avail of the helicopter services. The number may be extended at later stages, the source also said.
The opposition BJP starts its campaign by helicopter from mid-March. The party has four helicopters to use in the ensuing election. BJP Party President Nitin Gadkari, senior leader L.K Advani, Varun Gandhi, Arun Jatley, Hema Malini, etc., will be coming to Assam.
All United Democratic Front (AUDF) has also booked two helicopters for its campaigns. Out of two one will be meant for Barak valley and another for Lower Assam. But AUDF yet to fix their schedules to use the helicopters.
With the declaration of the poll schedule, all politicial parties are gradually accelerating the intensity of their campaigning in the state assembly elections in Assam. Bharatiya Janata Party, on March 3, declared their second list of 54 candidates. The ruling Congress and opposition Asom Gana Parishad are also expected to declare their list of candidates very soon.
