UK AND Japan will be able to sip pipping hot Starbucks instant coffee soon, with Starbucks launching its Via instant coffee mix here. While Starbucks will launch Via in UK next week, it will launch the instant coffee mic in Japan next month.
Starting on Monday, the Starbucks Via will be put on the racks of its 700 plus stores in UK.
The instant coffee launch is a new strategy from Starbucks, which now wishes to move from a being a coffee outlet to a larger coffee brand. Before the launch of Via, the company had carried out a test marketing programme in 32 Starbucks stores at London's West End.
Brian Waring, UK Marketing Director, said,“This almost took us by surprise, the extent to which Via exceeded its targets last year.” People had gone on to purchase triple packs of the instant coffee mix. They then, came back to purchase the trial 12 packs.
“That demonstrated to us that the consumer response and satisfaction was driving demand and repeat purchase,” he said.
Via which is launched in the North American market in october, got about half of the four per cent sales jump in the latest quarter, making about $35 million. It sold in Costco and Target outlets too.
