Rajnikanth, who has a huge fan following appealed to all the Muslims and asked all such Muslim organisations, “to sit with Haasan and discuss the issue and allow its release without affecting its storyline". He also added, “Kamal is no ordinary artiste but an extraordinary one who can take Tamil cinema to new levels.” On Twitter, as Kamal Hasan started trending on Friday, fans as well as B town personalities came forward and supported him with their tweets.
Shekar Kapur, who is playing a role in the film tweeted, “I stand up for #kamalhassan right 2 show d world #vishwaroopam n let d people decide, especially after Censor Board has passed the film.You? Surprisingly, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also took to his Twitter account to show support. He said, “India is a free country. Kamal Haasan has been gifted with unique talents. He has the right to express his views & creativity unobstructed.”
Filmmaker Prithish Nandy incensed by all the controversy tweeted, “My heart goes out to Kamal Haasan. This banning nonsense must stop.” Rajdeep Sardesai posted what most of us are feeling, “If you don't like vishwaroopam, don't watch it, stage a dharna, but don't ban it.”
As for now, the movie has a stay by Madras High Court till January 28. On 26 January, the judge is expected to watch the film and then decide. Disappointment would be a small word to describe as to how the fans are feeling about the stay order on the film. Made in three languages, the Hindi version of the film is to be released on February 5.
