Stars come out in full support for Kamal Hassan's Vishwaroopam
The controversy related to the film Vishwaroopam is taking new dimensions. After some Muslim organizations started protesting strongly against the film on the grounds that it entails matter, which is against their faith, the film is creating headlines on almost a daily basis. And it is not making Kamal Haasan happy, who lashed out to all such organisations saying that they were involved in 'cultural terrorism' against his film.

In his statement he said, “I have been ruthlessly used as a vehicle by small groups who seek political profile. Icon bashing is a great way to be noticed when you are not one yourself. It is happening again and again. Any neutral and patriotic Muslim will surely feel pride on seeing my film. It was designed for that purpose.” As the controversy is raging in Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad and Bangalore many actors and other celebrities have come forward to support the actor.

Rajnikanth, who has a huge fan following appealed to all the Muslims and asked all such Muslim organisations, “to sit with Haasan and discuss the issue and allow its release without affecting its storyline". He also added, “Kamal is no ordinary artiste but an extraordinary one who can take Tamil cinema to new levels.” On Twitter, as Kamal Hasan started trending on Friday, fans as well as B town personalities came forward and supported him with their tweets.

Shekar Kapur, who is playing a role in the film tweeted, “I stand up for #kamalhassan right 2 show d world #vishwaroopam n let d people decide, especially after Censor Board has passed the film. You? Surprisingly, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also took to his Twitter account to show support. He said, “India is a free country. Kamal Haasan has been gifted with unique talents. He has the right to express his views & creativity unobstructed.”

Filmmaker Prithish Nandy incensed by all the controversy tweeted, “My heart goes out to Kamal Haasan. This banning nonsense must stop.” Rajdeep Sardesai posted what most of us are feeling, “If you don't like vishwaroopam, don't watch it, stage a dharna, but don't ban it.”

As for now, the movie has a stay by Madras High Court till January 28. On 26 January, the judge is expected to watch the film and then decide. Disappointment would be a small word to describe as to how the fans are feeling about the stay order on the film. Made in three languages, the Hindi version of the film is to be released on February 5.
