States need to come together to fight Left-Wing Extremism: Rajnath Singh
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the states need to come together to fight Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).

He asked the states to take charge in leading operations against Maoists and also assured them that the central armed police forces (CAPFs) would actively coordinate with the states.

Singh held the meeting with Chief Ministers and representatives of 10 LWE affected states, to design a strategy to address the problem of growing LWE.

Asking the states to take charge and act together, Singh said that along with strategic command, unified command is also required to address the problem of LWE and that a similar unified command is also required at the operations level.

"LWE cadres are constantly trying to inflict losses on security forces to boost the morale of their cadres. Today, we need to consider whether to react only after the occurrence of any incident or we should be more proactive," Singh asked.

Making a balanced speech, Singh while on one hand stressed on the importance to improve the facilities provided to soldiers at the camps including water facility and better connectivity, on the other hand, he also said that it needs to be ensured that security forces must adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures.

Stressing on the use of technology to counter terror, Singh said that technology including GPS tracking, thermal imaging etc needs to be deployed to tackle the growing menace. He also stressed on the need to chalk out a specific action plan with short, medium & long term goals clearly defined.
