We have all heard of how it is important to stick to nature's timing and not try to alter it too much. But now a conclusive research has proven that those who stay up late at night have a higher risk of mortality as compared to those who don't.
And the gap is not just a moonier one
but that of a huge ten per cent. Not only this, those who sleep late or remain
awake during the night are at a much higher risk of catching diseases such as
diabetes, neurological disorders, respiratory disorders and other psychological
problems.

The research published
in the journal Chronobiology International, had more than 4 lakh people as
subjects. While the research does not explain as to what exactly causes the
increased vulnerability to diseases or what leads to the higher mortality rate,
but health experts have for long been warning against severe health issues
arising out of the mismatch between our natural body clock and the body clock
that we try to impose on our bodies. And this mismatch has been linked to
various health issues. But in terms of linking it to mortality, this is the
first of its kind study that has done so.
The research also says that a certain part of one's body clock
is genetic so it could be beyond one's control as well. But the fact that night
owls have a risk of dying sooner needs to be taken more seriously as it is a public
health issue.
