Step-motherly treatment to Gujarat
The CBI, a handmaid of the central govt is seeking a transfer of the Sohrabudin case out of Gujarat. It is a brazen insult to millions of Gujaratis.
GUJARAT CHIEF minister Narendra Modi has raised a valid point about the ASMITA or identity and pride of the state of Gujarat being hurt by the CBI asking for a transfer of case out of the state. At this rate an accused charged with sedition and waging war against India will ask for transfer of his case outside India. It would be in the fitness of things for the Supreme Court to put a stop to such silly proposals that hurt the self respect of people of a State or a region. Please recall the case of shifting of graves in Varanasi that the Supreme Court had ordered long ago but successive governments, mostly Congress governments failed to carry out the order. Moral of the story is that a section of population bent upon creating a riotous situation is successful in pressuring governments to disobey the Supreme Court. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should respect wishes of the people and ask CBI to withdraw its request asking for the aforesaid transfer. That will be an act of statesmanship rising above petty politics. Come to think of it, the amount of money and energy that the CBI, as directed by the Congress-led government at the Centre is frittering away on a non-issue like the present case of a criminal killed by the police is making our congressmen the laughing stock of the international political community. It is unbecoming lthat eaders of national stature to get stuck with the case of elimination of criminals and terrorists and fritter away the goodwill of the nation. This is out and out a vote bank politics of the party in power. They want to remain in power by hook or by crook bypassing propriety. In the present circumstances India can never compete with China that is pursuing its goal of world leadership with undivided attention without wasting energy on non-issues.
