Steve Czaban said,'My contract with Fox Sports Radio has not been renewed. The last day of the Steve Czaban Show is scheduled for December 23. Steven A Smith will be my permanent replacement.'
RADIO SHOW host Steve Czaban would not return for a fifth year with Fox Sports Radio, after the show was cancelled. Steve Czaban was on the show on December 23 and has been handling it for the last four years. His place will be taken by Steven A Smith.
Steve Czaban had earlier given an indication on his blog that his time was up. He said,"My contract with Fox Sports Radio has not been renewed. The last day of the Steve Czaban Show is scheduled for December 23. Steven A Smith will be my permanent replacement. Now, you can chew on that one for a bit." Fox Sports Radio claimed its decision was a move in a "different direction." A letter from the company read,"He has performed for us on air brilliantly and has been a tremendous asset to our network for many years."
Steve Czaban claimed that he was axed as his show appeared to be like Mike and Mike. He said Steven A Smith won't sound like that and a "new programming regime has come to power at Fox Radio Sports about a year ago."
.Bad move. Steven A is arrogant and annoying. The Czabe brought a much better product to the radio then ESPN's Mike and Mike. They should have promoted the show better. I won't be listening to Steven A.
.Czaban off the air? GOOOOOOOOD! I don't necessarily agree with steven a smith as the replacement but it beats Czaban's middle aged-racist tinted "angry white guy" mentality. Czaban was out of control and never should have had a national podium to begin with.
.I wasn't a big fan of Steven Smith, but I have listened to his show and pleasantly surprised. I did like him on ESPN when he debated Skip Bayless. I think the change is good. I live in the DC area and hear Steve Czaban on his local show. Maybe that's why I'm happy for the change. His national show was like his local show, he talked too much local DC stuff.
.Risky move here. Looking at the other comments, ain't much changed in the U.S. Steve could tone down his Bonds v. McGwire themed arguments, but sometimes things do need to be said. I'm just not sure Stephen A.'s a stand alone host in this country. At least he isn't partnered with the oft-hated Jemele Hill! Relax 20-40 yr old white male sports fan, things will eventually be reset to your liking - not enough brothers listen to sports talk radio to begin with.
.What a poor decision. Takking the Steve Czaben show off the air and replacing it with Stephen A. Smith. What a mess Stephen A. Smith is. I will not listen to his show. He shows me no class and is very repetitive. What a sham! You just dismissed one of the best entertainers/sports analysis show. I especially like the pog casts I could listen to at my leisure.
.I am not familiar with Mr. Smith, however he sounds like he is on a soapbox trying to imitate Jessi Jackson, thankfully having Sirius I have several options.
Sincerely: Dennis
P.S. love Dan Patrick and Tony Bruno.
.I can't believe this has happened, it the shock of the year on sports radio. Smith has his place on the air but I can't begin to understand why you replaced such a dynamic personallity with a polarizing individual. I don't know how long it will take me to find a replacement or find where Steve will go. I was close to canceling my xm radio after the hire of Howard Stern and with this move I again am considering that option. This was a stupid move.
.With respect to Mr. Smiths long and documented success as a radio personality; his publicly stated goal to become a relevant, political commentator, re:Keith Oberman, and to Mr. Smith’s style and on air persona… Replacing Czban with the polarizing Mr. Smith is a disastrous decision. He is neither familiar or engaging. Audiences do not warm to him. Demographics will shift. Listeners will leave. Your list of affiliates will shrink. Account representatives responsible for selling air time for the replacement show are sending out resumes today. Mr. Smith’s hackneyed reliance on racism as the source for all that is wrong in the world is intellectually inept and beneath the standards of FSN. Maybe Spike Lee will listen, who else?
I can not imagine a more effective way to have alienated your loyal listeners.
Good Luck explaining that to your sponsers.
How, in this day and age, with the ability to measure public demand both available and reliable, could you make a decision that feels so wrong? No wait, drop the euphuism. Your choice is utterly and completely wrong.
Of course you have failed your listeners. I suspect that doesn’t really matter to you, but what will you tell ‘your’ management and stockholders when the next ratings books come out?
