Stooges, Abba, Genesis finally in Hall of Fame
The 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, held at Waldorf Astoria on Monday night saw the Stooges, ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, Gensis and the Hollies inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Several noted songwriters got in too.
AFTER A long wait, the Stooges, ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, Gensis and the Hollies were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The wait has been long indeed. While the Stooges have been nominated seven times, but missed out a chance of induction, they alongside Genesis, the Hollies and Jimmy Cliff have been part of the music scene since 1960s. Abba on the other hand, also has had a 40 year career.
The 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, held at Waldorf Astoria on Monday night saw Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day introduce Stooges singer Iggy Pop, calling him “the most confrontational singer we will ever see.” To prove true, Iggy Pop came to the stage shirtless and said, “Roll over, Woodstock. We won.”
Meanwhile, Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman, Otis Blackwell and the teams of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, songwriters from the 1950s and 1960s, also got their due. Cynthia Weil at the induction said, “From the bottom of my heart and with the greatest humility, I thought you guys would never ask.”
Meanwhile the 25th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony also saw some younger performers nominated, including rapper LL Cool J. But they would have to wait till for the next time to be a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
