Street side dhabas lose to Commonwealth Games
Government has passed orders and asked Municipal Corporation of Delhi to remove all the illegal street side dhabas and small restaurants hitting the livelihood of lakhs of people and completely changing the street food culture.
COMMONWEALTH Games 2010, no doubt is going to be a big event for the country. It is happening in the country for the first time and it is the matter of country’s reputation and standing.

Government authorities are doing commendable job by investing in malls, metro rails all over and outside the city, monorail in Mumbai, air conditioned local buses, big hotel and lodges for visitors and lot more. Apart from this, authorities are busy planning activities which are not at all acceptable by common man. Government has passed the orders to Municipal Corporation of Delhi for removing all the illegal street side dhabas and small restaurants hitting the livelihood of lakhs of people and completely changing the street food culture.

We can’t overlook the fact that there are more than twenty thousand dhabas across the city and exterminating those means taking away the jobs of lakhs of people. According to me either government should offer jobs to lakhs of people, who will lose their dhabas or authorities should provide funds for the renovation of dhabas converting it into small restaurants only. Government should also offer license to the owners thereby saving their jobs from future threats or difficulties as we can’t risk the livelihood of lakhs of people.

Common Wealth Games 2010, is going to be a big event for the country and several countries will be coming to India in order to be a part of it. The visitors won’t be visiting big cafes and restaurants all the time during the events. They can visit the small street side dhabas and can try out the special ‘masala chai’ and coffee there which is actually loved by Indians.

Exterminating dhabas will only ruin the current scenario and we should not forget that less than two hundred days are left for the Common Wealth Games. Removing dhabas and giving jobs to the unemployed will be a difficult task for the government authorities as we all know that our government is not at all good at completing tasks on time. Therefore, it is better to invest funds in the reconstruction of dhabas instead of destroying them.

.Dhabas of any city is not only connect with empolyment but also depicts the culture of the concerned city as well as country. So, dhabas are also important for commonwelth games. It is duty of local authorities to legalise them but do not buldoze.
