'Strikes, Closures & Unrest' No.1 risk affecting Indian economy: India Risk Survey 2016
'Strikes, Closures & Unrest' are major risk factors affecting the Indian economy according to a report by industry body FICCI. The annual FICCI-Pinkerton 'India Risk Survey 2016' was released yesterday by Sutapa Sanyal, Director General of Police, U.P. Police Mahila Samman Prakoshth at a seminar on 'New Age Risks 2016' organised by the industry body.

Sutapa Sanyal said that to combat disturbance of law and order and rising crime rates which has the power to negatively impact businesses there was a need to improve law enforcement by bringing about police reforms.

According to a release by the FICCI, she added that there was a need to modernize the police system; improve the dismal police-citizen ratio; make forensic science investigation robust; enhance data collection and crime mapping; improve training and investigation methods and increase conviction rates.

She said that the nation's security should not be compromised at any cost. She was of the view that to deal with terrorism it was essential that far flung and remote parts of the country also become part of the economic development taking place in the country.

To ensure cyber safety Sutapa Sanyal emphasised on thorough background check of the employees, tracking of data access and timely upgradation of systems and technology.

Karan Bains, Country Director, Pinkerton, said that safety of women employees outside workplace was an emerging risk to employers.

"India Risk Survey (IRS) attempts to capture this new risk and through this initiative hopes for better synergy between all stakeholders to take the necessary measures to mitigate this risk", said Bains.
