Mettenbrink, a member of the cyber group 'Anonymous' was indicted for attempting to destroy church of Scientology websites, by a LA grand jury. He had executed a DDOS attack against church computers, with a program of the anti-scientology group.
ON WEDNESDAY, October 28, a federal grand jury in Los Angeles, indicted Brian Thomas Mettenbrink, a member of the cyber group Anonymous, for his part in the January 2008 attempted destruction of Scientology websites, owned by the Church of Scientology.
Mettenbrink, 20, has been charged with the conspiracy and the “transmission of a code, information, program or command to a protected computer.” The indictment states that he obtained a computer program from an Anonymous website and executed a “DDOS” attack from his dormitory, at the Iowa state university, against church computers in Los Angeles. A DDOS (distributed denial of service) attack occurs where a large amount of malicious Internet traffic is directed at a website or a set of websites, with the intent to overwhelm and shut down the websites.
Brain is the second member of Anonymous to face criminal charges relating to this attack. In May 2009, Dmitriy Guzner, then 18, pleaded guilty to computer hacking charges for his role in the attack on church computers. He is currently awaiting sentencing.
.I was in Scientology for 15 years, and no one should trust them. They will take all your money and your family. I haven't seen my own mother in years because of scientology
.Today's Scientology is not the group that I joined, so many years ago. The corruption that has flourished under David Miscavige has perverted this group beyond recognition. If it takes a couple of pranks to wake people up about the crimes this group commits, that seems like a reasonable thing. Civil rights would not have gotten far if Rosa Parks had not broken the unjust regulations of her time by refusing to sit in the back of the bus.
.Fake news story the cult of scientology. Scientologists actually have training routines in their cult to learn to lie convincingly. People who think they are above everyone else and have the only solutions are very dangerous.
.Scientology is fail and thus deserves to be hacked >: / even if you view it as an actual religion and not a moneymaking cult the LAST thing we need on this planet is another religion.....
.Scientology is a fraudulent organization for stupid and/or gullible people. This Los Angeles kid did a public service and should be praised, not prosecuted, for his action.
To be caught in a cult does not take gullibility or stupidity. I studied them extensively in an anthropology program at NEIU, and learned that anyone can be brainwashed. You have to avoid walking into the trap altogether, or you might get caught. That is why those on the outside must take action.
.Anonymous doesn't have "members." There are participants of an internet collective. It's not an organization, has no leaders or hierarchy. It's more of a flashmob, only with masks.
."to stop using the internet. Stop reading newspapers and magazines. "
LOL! Yeah Scientology would like that, wouldn't they. Is that why the cult puts net nannys on its members computers, so any info must come from Scientology itself?
Sorry dude, will never happen. I am OUTRAGED that your organization commits fraud every day. I am OUTRAGED that you destroy families and bankrupt your members. I am OUTRAGED that Miscavige beats his staff.
But I'm laughing at your "tens of millions of people" claim. You have 55,000 left in your crime syndicate. Oops, sorry, make that 54,999-Paul Haggis just blew.
And the collapse continues....
OUTRAGE is right. Especially this slavery stuff, which should land them all in jail. I say Boycott anything with a scamatomologist at the helm. The hollywood types, you will notice, never criticize the group, because they are afraid they will lose a role. Shame on them....
.As a Scientologist, I am outraged at so much of the media's constant lies about the Scientology religion. The best way to learn about Scientology is to stop using the internet. Stop reading newspapers and magazines. The chaos-merchants are pulling out all the stops with their attacks on the Scientology religion. They hate it because they know it works. They hate it specifically because they know it has improved the lives of tens of millions of people who are proud to call themselves Scientologists. You simply can't believe the lies and propaganda about Scientology being spread so viciously every day through the media and the internet.
Yes, stop trying to learn about Scientology from these anarchists and other criminals on the payroll of Big Psychiatry. Pick up a copy of Dianetics at a local Stress Test table. Come on down to your nearest Scientology org, and talk to the people there. They'll be happy to offer you an introductory Stress Test, and a nice discount when you purchase two or more of Mr. Hubbard's numerous New York Times Bestsellers' List books.
Scientologists claim to be so free and able, but they must hide from all information outside the words of the 1950's science fiction writer who founded their cult. Sad.
Your brainwashing is quite evident. Stop reading the papers, the internet, etc... just read the old L. Ron Hubbard, right? Just because they keep everything from you scamatomologists, does mean you own the world. And Your cult has a history of breaking the law and going to jail for it.l And there are not 'milllions' of scamatom.'s, there are aprox. 50k. You are steeped in lies. I will pray for you.
My comment to the gent who says breaking the law is never right... I am glad he wasn't around in 1776.
.What a joke. This is clearly written by the $cientologists themselves.
Note to the $cilons: This isn't going to help your reputation or deflect from your FRAUD conviction.
.let me just add... Scamatomologists recently sent themselves a bunch of letters with powder in them, which they tried to blame on Anonymous. Yes, they are known for this kind of behavior as well. Look into how they take the passports from third world people, who are lured out of poverty with a promise of a job... then are enslaved on ships and paid 45 cents an hour.
Breaking the law is never okay. If people have a problem with the management of Scientology, they have to battle it out in a non-criminal way. Hacking is a felony and once it is allowed against one group, other groups will follow. Guzner and Mettenbrink are young fools. Anonymous is full of young fools.
.Scientology is known for messing with people's web sites. I hope this hero is let off. I mean, look at this cult's policies and you will see he is fighting fire with fire, and with a gov. that still gives these scamatomolgists tax exempt status, the people have to fight them themselves. GOOD FOR HIM....
.This press release is a fabrication of the Cult of scientology. They have recently been convicted for organized fraud in France. They always try to deflect from their own crimes.
.Cool! My name is brain too :-).
By the way, a couple of days ago, Scientology was convicted in France for organised fraud and ABC aired exposes about the Koreanesque culture in Scientology.
