Students campaign against eve teasing in Mumbai
TYBMM students of St. Andrews College, Bandra have begun a campaign 'FREEZE THE TEASE' an anti eve teasing initiative in order to raise voice against this ever increasing problem existing in our society.
EVE TEASING is one of the most predominant problems women face in their day-to-day life. This evil has been lurking around since a very long time and no attempt has been ever made with regard to curbing this menace in our society. It is often seen that people criticize such acts of eve teasing. However, when the time comes to stand up and fight against it everyone prefers to take a back seat.

What began as a class assignment for a group of TYBMM students of St. Andrews College bloomed into a successful effort to bring a stop to eve-teasing and creating awareness about the same. As a part of their curriculum, six students namely Anishka Alvares (19), Rochelle Barrie (19), ), Digi George(19), Perma Dsouza (19) Andrea Fernandes(20) and Valeska Reveredo(20) of St. Andrews College (Bandra), co-incidentally all girls, launched a campaign known as FREEZE THE TEASE- An Anti-Eve Tease Initiative in the first week of August.

It’s a small effort to try and make people aware that it’s high time someone takes action. It all started with a minor desire to create awareness about the ill-treatment girls have to face because of the perverted eve-teasers who lurk around in public places and escape unperturbed. As a means to reach out to the young audience, the group started out their campaign on a popular social networking site.

Currently they have more than five hundred supporters who have joined to fight against this cause. They also started an SMS drive where in tips on how to tackle eve teasing are sent once you subscribe to it. As a way of showing one’s support towards this initiative, the students were given bands and were also told to sign on a customized scroll as part of the signature campaign conducted in the college. Also in order to attract the attention of the students during college hours, the team designed wonderful posters and put them up inside the college premises.

Another major event that the team organized was a Self defence workshop conducted by Gurunath Bali, a karate trainer and also a fitness expert. He stated, ???Using simple techniques girls can defend themselves when attacked by an eve- teaser.??? This event was a huge success and many girls got to learn several simple techniques of self defence in order to counter attack at such situations.

So far the campaign is gaining immense momentum and these young students are striving hard to make their efforts count. They soon plan to make effective use of outdoor mediums and attempt to bring about widespread recognition and change the mindset of the entire society.
