Students' unrest at Koraput Central University: Vice-Chancellor declares sine die
The Koraput Central University Vice-Chancellor Sachidananda Mohanty declared sine die and instructed the students to vacate the hostels immediately before 10 am on Thursday after a students' unrest.

A large number of students are protesting and raising more than 60 demands. Their demands include filling up the teachers' vacancies, providing basic facilities in the hostel like drinking water, opening more departments like in other Central Universities of India, bus services to provide communication facilities from the hostel to the university, canteen and Wi-Fi facilities, medical facilities within the campus, etc.

The students were seen outside the university campus sitting on dharana peacefully on Wednesday evening.

"The students were out of control and there were chances of violence 'so we had declared sine die to maintain discipline in the campus," Sachidananda Mohanty said in a press meet on Thursday.

In-fighting of the staff in the Central University is also one of the reasons for its closure, the staff of the university expressed to the visiting journalists.

The VC Sachidananda Mohanty said that while the administration is trying to solve the problems of the students, very few number of students are creating problems making 800 students of the university to suffer, for which the declaration of sine die is justified according the rules of the varsity.

Most of the students have left Koraput for their own native places having no facilities to stay coupled with financial stringency. The students around more than 100 in number met the Additional District Magistrate on Thursday evening in presence of the Collector Koraput and submitted their representation expressing their burning problems in the university.
