Study on 'reading for learning' gets best paper recognition at national seminar on teacher education
In the national seminar on "Rehabilitation of Teacher Education - A Challenge" held on April 28 at Shivalik College of Education in Punjab's College of Education at Gurdaspur in association with the Global Educational Research Association, the paper "Training Pupil Teachers of Special Education in Preliminary Read-and-Learn Skill:An Intervention" presented by Dr Lalit Kishore of Disha Foundation of Jaipur was honoured as the best paper.

In the inaugural session addressed by Professor SP Malhotra, Chief Consultant with MHRD and office bearer of GERA, raised the issue of deteriorating reading levels and habits among students and teachers both as a reflection on the the present scenario in education and the technical session. Dr Kishore presented his intervention study report on a solution to the problem making his paper relevant.

The study report and presentation was also found to subscribe for the parameters of a reasonable research paper writing. The sketch note method in dual code for reading skill explanation and presentation of the concept of 'reading' through a concept matrix were appreciated. The moderator stressed the need of ethical issues in research communication and report writing which were reflected in the paper selected as the best paper.

The intervention research of Dr Kishore followed the process of demonstration of the skill by the educator and its demystification; guided and corrective practice of the skill; and individualized over-learning of the skill. The topic for the reading skill acquisition was the "Learning Disabilities" that included reading, writing, mathematical and visual processing dysfunctions.
