Stung by farmers' agitation Mayawati slams opposition
BSP supremo Mayawati today accused the opposition of trying to milch the Bhatta Parsaul incident to make political gains. She also criticised Rahul Gandhi for enacting the drama.
SLAMMING THE opposition for trying to make political capital out of the Noida farmers' agitation, BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to fight first at the Centre as no one appeared to be listening to him.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow today, Mayawati accused the opposition of trying to disrupt law and order in Greater Noida in order to draw political mileage. She also alleged that violent clashes at Bhatta Parsaul villages had nothing to do with land compensation.

Mayawati also accused Rahul Gandhi of indulging in drama and trying to foment trouble for the administration on an issue, which was non-existent. She was particularly harsh on the Congress leader as he managed to outwit her administration and reach Bhatta Parsaul, much to the discomfort of BSP chief.

Meanwhile, several Congress leaders and workers were cane-charged and detained by the police for protesting against Mayawati government's land acquisition policy. Several Congress leaders were also injured in the police action as the party tried to enforce a statewide chakka-jam in support of farmers.

Two Congress MLAs and several party workers were detained in Rae Bareli for blocking the national highway. Protests were also held in several other parts of the state including Allahabad, Meerut, Jhansi and other districts.

Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has demanded a judicial probe into the police action, which lead to the killing of four people in Bhatta Parsaul. BJP leader Rajnath Singh called for the resignation of Mayawati saying that she had lost moral right to rule the state.
