Style icon Maharani Gayatri Devi is no more
Rajmata of Jaipur, Maharani Gayatri Devi passed away in Jaipur today after a prolonged illness. She was known to be a style icon and was quite popular with the fashion fraternity the world over.
Considered to be a style icon and one of the most beautiful women in the world, the graceful Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur passed away after a prolonged illness in the Pink city on Wednesday.
Gayatri Devi, who was 90-year old, breathed her last at the Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital (SDMH). She was admitted to the hospital after complaining of stomach ache a week back.
A hospital official said that the Maharani had developed gastric problem in London and was admitted in a hospital there. She however was flown to Jaipur in an air ambulance after she expressed her desire to return to the country.
Born on May 23, 1919 in the royal family of Cooch Bihar, Gayatri Devi became the Rajmata of Jaipur after her marriage to Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II.
The Rajmata had a successful political stint and was respected for her style and much liked for the manner in which she conducted herself as a royal. Gayatri Devi was also named as one of most beautiful in the world by an international magazine.
