Suicides among teenagers have increased drastically
Teenagers today are facing a series of problems but is that a reason to worry?

If you are a parent of a teenager, especially a teenage girl, it should be a cause of worry for you.

Suicides rate among teenage girls is at an all time high, a research has claimed. The research was conducted by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and has concluded that between 2007 and 2015, the rate of suicides had doubled in case of girls falling within the age group of 15 to 19 years. And for girls falling within the age group of 12 to 14 years, the rate of suicide has tripled.

In case of boys falling within the age group of 15 to 19 years, the suicides rate has increased by 30 per cent. The researchers analysed data from1975 to 2015 to arrive at the conclusions.

According to the research, the suicides rate for teenage boys has seen an increase from 12 suicides per 100,000 in 1975 to the same number being at 18 in 1990. From there till 2007, the numbers have seen a decline. The year 1990 marks the highest point. But what is worrying is that from 2007 till 2105, the numbers see a steady rise again.

"The suicide rate for males aged 15–19 years increased from 12.0 to 18.1 per 100,000 population from 1975 to 1990, declined to 10.8 by 2007, and then increased 31% to 14.2 by 2015," the CDC has reported.

But the study is silent on the reasons behind the increasing number of suicides, and neither is it clear that why is there such as staggering gap between the suicides rate of teenage boys and teenage girls.
