Suman Mahato is the star campaigner for JMM
Former parliamentarian and general secretary of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Suman Mahato, has been selected as the star campaigner for the upcoming assembly elections. Mahato is campaigning on the lines of women empowerment and rights.
THE JHARKHAND Mukti Morcha (JMM) has selected Suman Mahato, the former parliamentarian and now general sectary of JMM as its star campaigner for the upcoming assembly elections. The party in its agenda to woo voters is campaigning with Mahato on the lines of women empowerment and rights.

Mahato and the JMM are addressing issues like female education, health, rights and reservation for women in the administration of the state in its door to door campaign.

“My basic aim is to promote equality in the society and to motivate women to join active politics for their own betterment. I, myself being a woman understand the problems they face in their daily lives in a purely male dominated society,” said Suman Mahato, general sectary, JMM.

Mahato also accepts that the last parliamentary election that she had won was on the sentiments of her late husband Sunil Mahato. She commented that emotions are very temporary issue and have to be a part of the past to progress. She also realises the fact that political mileage can only be gained if she and her party works for the people and brings positive social changes,

“The death of husband didn’t stop me from joining politics or contesting elections because I believed in myself and the party. Despite of losing the 2009 parliamentary elections, the JMM has still given me the role of a star campaigner because of the work I have done for the marginalised community,” said Mahato.

The JMM feels that the woman is pivot of the family and if a woman can be convinced of the worth of the party and its work, she can influence family members. This is another unique reason that has made Mahato a heavy weight campaigner for the party.

“The party this time has issued tickets to only those members whose priority has been social workers and not mere individual benefits. I am campaigning for candidates who have done 25 to 30 years of social developmental works in the region. I personally believe that the people recognise the efforts and will vote if they find you worth the responsibility, campaigning is just a polishing tool,” said Mahato.
