Summon to Manmohan Singh proves coal block allocation was done in a conspiratorial manner: BJP
A CBI court has summoned former PM Moanmohan Singh as an accused in CoalGate. Reacting to the summon Manmohan Singh has said that he was feeling upset on this decision by the court.

Talking to reporters Manmohan Singh said, "I am upset, but this is a part of life. I am sure that the truth will prevail and I will get a chance to put forward my case with facts."

The ex-PM was summoned by the court in connection with the allocation of Talabira-II coal block in Odisha to Hindalco in 2005. At that time Manmohan Singh was in charge of the coal ministry also.

Reacting to the court's summon to the former PM Manmohan Singh, BJP said the court's summon has proved BJP's stand that coal block allocation was done in a conspiratorial manner and in collusion with certain private companies.

GVL Narasimha Rao, BJP's National Spokesperson said, "This only indicates the BJP's stand that coal block allocation was done in a conspiratorial manner and in collusion with certain private companies. And the court has been a prima facai evidence to prosecute the summoned. The former prime minister being one of the accused shows that the corruption angle in the entire allocation was the dominating factor. This furthur gets amplified by the fact that more than 2 lakh crores has been generated through open auction from allocation of nearly 30 coal blocks."

Ram Deo Bhandary, a senior leader from Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) said, "If this all has been done because of the grudge against the previous government, then it is wrong. But if it is done according to a legal procedure then Manmohan Singh will answer to it."

Rajesh Dixit, National Secretary, Samajwadi Party said, "It is very unfortunate that the former Prime Minister has been dragged into this. It is because of the wrong policies of UPA government that has led to this embarrassment."

Meanwhile as reported by NDTV, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibbal has said that Congress would protect Manmohan Singh with all its might.

"I don't think anyone in India believes that Manmonhan Singh can do something wrong or corrupt. He was extremely cautious and he always wanted to be on the right side of the law. Now he finds himself summoned. We shall defend Manmohan Singh with all our might."

The special CBI judge has summoned industrialist Kumar Manglam Birla, former Coal Secretary PC Parakh, M/s Hindalco, its officials Shubhendu Amitabh and D Bhattacharya. If convicted accused can face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in this case.
