ACTOR-TURNED-politician Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam Party now has a new election symbol. The Election Commission of India on Friday (July 17), approved the ‘sun’ as the new symbol for the party. The party recently contested the elections (with the ‘rail engine’ as its party's symbol) and won only 18 assembly seats. The party took this as a sign to change its symbol and urged the Election Commission to approve a new symbol and asked the commission to consider the ‘wheel’ or ‘sun’ as the new symbol. According to the party’s requisition, the commission confirmed that the ‘sun’ would be considered the party's new symbol and the necessary orders were issued in this regard.
The party cadre have expressed their pleasure with the new symbol as the symbol has been included on the party’s flag. Party supremo, Chiranjeevi, welcomed the new symbol and said that the new symbol is good omen for the party. He said that the party would fight for the people and that it would be on the side of the poor for all time to come.
Meanwhile, the party is planning to celebrate its first annual day function on August 26. The party had been established on the same day last year. On Friday, Party President Chiranjeevi, discussed the issue with senior leaders Devender Goud, P Upendra and others. The high command decided to appoint an ad hoc steering committee and associated committees like the Mahila Rajyam and the Yuva Rajyam. The party decided to fill all district and mandal committees as soon as possible.
