Super 9 Night Cricket Tournament - Witness ecstasy
Symbiosis International University is organizing a Night Cricket Tournament from today March 11, 2010 to March 14, 2010 at its ground at Lavale Campus in Pune. Former chairman of BCCI selection committee Mr. Chandu Borde will be Chief Guest.
IN LINE with its philosophy of realizing the coveted goal of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘The World is one Family’, Symbiosis International University (SIU), Pune is organizing a cricket tournament billed as the Super9 – Night Cricket Tournament in its own ground at the Lavale campus of the University in Pune.

Thirty teams have already confirmed their participation to make the event a gala success and prize money worth Rs. 1 lakh is up for grabs. The tournament would be held from 11th March, 2010 and will continue till 14th March, 2010. The matches have been scheduled post 3:00 PM till 1:00 AM in the midnight.
Former Indian cricket player and Chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Selection Committee, Chandu Borde has been invited as the chief guest for the event. Dr. M.S. Raste, SIU Vice Chancellor; Dr. Rajiv Yerevadkar, Director of Symbiosis Centre of Health Care and other top notch university officials would grace the occasion with their illuminating presence. With his wide array of cricketing experience and expertise, Borde is slated to give a hitherto new dimension to the tournament.

The tournament is going to set a record of sorts with all the matches being recorded and played on a giant screen. A dedicated team from Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC), Pune is working day in and day out to make it possible along with running live commentary of the matches. The tournament would be the first of its kind to be completely televised and recorded. Faisal Ahsan Siddiqui, a senior media trainee from SIMC is heading the team to convert the event into a success.

The format of the tournament has been fixed to be Knock-out and thus there is hardly any second chance for the participating teams to come back. Just a single mistake and the sojourn is over for the teams.

The rules and dynamics of cricket have been twisted and tweaked to make the event more enthralling and exhilarating. Each team would constitute of 9 players and each innings would have 9 overs. The matches will be played with soft tennis balls instead of hard cricketing balls.

One thing that completely sets the tournament apart is the fact that the last over of all the innings would have 9 balls to remain true to the number 9 which is the driving force for the event.
The sponsors for the tournament include Midday, IBN Lokmat, Radio One and Gold’s Gym. The event partner is Sapphire 360 degree Entertainment.
With a clean record of holding thriving national and international events, this SIU organised event is also not expected to be an exception. The tournament is billed to be a super success.
