FANS SEEMED to be let down a bit by rock and roll legend The Who, as Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend kept trying to match their liveliness and spirit from 30 years ago at the Super Bowl on Sunday. The band were there for halftime entertainment for the game between New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts.
Though many appreciated Roger Daltrey and Pete Towshend performing ol numbers like “Pinball Wizard,” “Baba O’Riley,” “Who Are You,” “See Me, Feel Me,” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, it wasn't as big as the buildup before the performance.
There were nice snippets between these numbers - the harmonica solo by Roger Daltrey being one. They were joined on the stage by Zak Starkey as drummer, whose Union jack shirt was noticed as a throwback to the nostalgic times when The Who had first first captured fame.
.I think its said that we do not have big enough new stars to play at the superbowl. I am of the 80's era of music,,,,,but really was embarrassed by another British group. Has the Mishap of Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake banned us from ever having a current relevant American entertainer (Bruce Springsteen aside) I am all for the classics......but I wonder, are the performers paying the Superbowl to play. I certainly hope that we aren't paying for anything but the electrical show. It's sending the message that the Superbowl is ancient history. Not current or relevant.
