A Supreme Court bench comprising of justices B S Chauhan and Swatenter Kumar have issued notices to Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of Delhi, Delhi Police Commissioner, and the Delhi administration - and they have to respond in two weeks.
At the same time the court disallowed a public interest litigation filed by an advocate Ajay Agarwal on the same issue. The advocate had appealed for a White Paper from the Centre and Delhi Police justifying their actions on Saturday night. The Apex court during the hearing on Monday also wanted to know the sequence of the events that led to the matter going out of the hand. The ‘deal’, which is being raised by the Congress time and again, would also be questioned. Thus the Supreme Court issued to the Government a letter of eviction of the Yoga guru.
The Ramdev Baba case took a turn towards the worse when the Delhi police on Saturday night went to the Ramlila Maidan, in Delhi and started disrupting the crowd. Around 71 people were injured and the matter turned grave when a lot of women and children were injured in the whole fiasco. On Sunday morning the Government was seen justifying its actions by saying that they had a deal with Ramdev Baba, were the baba had conceded to give him. When he did not do that the Congress was forced to take necessary actions as the Yoga icon was mobilizing a huge crowd. The footage of the night crackdown shows a frustrated Baba with some of his followers still trying to go on with their fast, when there were utter confusion and police personnel could be seen lathi charging people and firing tear gas on them. In the middle of everything the swami just jumped on his followers and made a safe exit to be hounded by the Delhi Police. The public litigation filed by the Advocate says, “This crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev's anti-graft fast is a shameful chapter in the history of Indian democracy. It was a barbaric act by the police against citizens who were protesting peacefully against corruption and black money.” The advocate Ajay Agarwal had named the respondent of his petition to be Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, home minister P Chidambaram, human resource development minister Kapil Sibal, tourism minister Subodh Kant Sahai and parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. The list also has Home secretary GK Pillai and Delhi Police commissioner BK Gupta.
