Even as Additional DGP of crime, PP Pandey, who is one of the main accused in 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, has been declared as a proclaimed absconder. His anticipatory bail plea will come up for hearing in the Supreme Court.
Notably, the Apex Court has refused to grant protection to PP Pandey. However, it agreed to hear his anticipatory bail plea. Meanwhile, there are reports stating that the Gujarat government may suspend PP Pandey, as he has not reported to his duty since he has been named as an accused in connection with Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.
As reported by nnis, the Superintendent of the Police as well as the city Police Commissioner have intensified efforts to help the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to trace PP Pandey, who has been awaiting arrest since he was denied bail. The CBI in a chargesheet named Pandey along with six other senior Gujarat Police officers as accused for the alleged involvement in the encounter.
Pandey was serving as the Joint Commissioner of Police crime when the girl and her friends were gunned down by police on 15 June 2004. It is alleged that Pandey supervised the fake encounter and even planned to file a FIR, even before the encounter took place.
