Mayawati has requested the central government to help UP compensate the victims and families of the recent Kunda stampede. She claims that it is a lean period for the state and the coffer doesn't hold enough money to meet the need.
WHAT A shock for tragedy stricken victims of Kunda stampede! UP Chief Minister Mayawati has said that her government has no funds to offer compensation for the kin of those killed and injured in Thursday’s tragic incident.
In a devastating incident 63 people were killed on March 4 as a stampede broke out at a Pratapgarh hermitage. Those killed were mostly children and women. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and said the kin of those killed would be given a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from PM’s National Relief Fund and Rs 50000 would be given to the seriously injured. In a press note issued on Friday, Mayawati said "In view of the acute financial crisis currently faced by the state, I am appealing to the central government to be generous in giving away decent compensation to the families of those who have lost their lives or were injured in the unfortunate stampede at the ashram run by spiritual guru Kripaluji Maharaj in Mangarh village of Pratapgarh district."
Showing a pitiable approach towards the victims, Mayawati instead of lending a helping hand requested central government to help UP in meeting such calamities. She had also requested her party’s MP to meet PM regarding the same matter. What bizarre attitude from UP’s Chief minister Mayawati towards her own people, if she can exploit government’s coffer for installing tens of statues across UP, why can’t she offer some money for the victims? Once again she has shown her true political color. "
