A suspect UAE plane carrying weapons was allowed to leave today by Indian authorities after they were satisfied that an official had made a mistake while filing the declaration form of the cargo. The mistake was later corrected.
A UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE) plane, which was detained at Caluctta airport after undisclosed arms and ammunition were found in its cargo has been allowed to leave by the Indian authorities. The plane had landed in Calcutta for refuelling on Sunday and was not allowed to leave the country after officials found it carried a consignment of weapons.
Indian officials grew suspicious after they found that weapons were being delivered to China, which is a net exporter of arms. The nine member crew of the C-130 Hercules plane was throughly interrogated about the cargo they were carrying.Authorities later contacted their counterparts in UAE and alerted them about the matter. It was found that the plane had the necessary clearances but a mistake had been made in filing the declaration form.
Later, a fresh declaration was filed which mentioned that the plane was carrying a consignment of weapons. Indian external affairs ministry said that the government was satisfied with the explanation given by the UAE authorities.The UAE plane which was parked in a special bay has now flown to its destination in China.
