Suspended ACP tried for Sohrabuddin fake encounter case to face trial in Ishrat Jahan case too
Suspended Gujarat ACP Narendra Amin, who is already facing trial in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, would now also face the trial in the Ishrat Jahan case. Ishrat who hailed from Mumbra, Thane was killed along with Javed Shiekh and two alleged Pakistani nationals named Amjad Rana and Zeeshan Johar on 15th June 2004 as they were on a mission to 'assassinate' the Gujarat CM.
Since the encounter various questions had been raised by the media on the police version of the story. Post protests by the civil right groups and the family of Ishrat, the
Gujarat High Court formed a Special Investigation team which termed the encounter as a staged one.
Special CBI prosecutor stated while interacting with the media: “The special court in Gujarat had last week issued a production warrant against Amin. We submitted the production warrant in the
Mumbai CBI court, which is trying Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, and it gave us permission to present him (Amin) before the Gujarat court.” He also added that the CBI team with the warrant had approached the Jail authorities where Amin is currently lodged, but was informed that Amin is in hospital.
In another development to one of the other top cops facing trial for fake encounters in Gujarat, DIG D G Vanzara, who is currently lodged in Navi Mumbai jail, received a jolt as his application to seek transfer to Gujarat jail, citing threat from the banned outfit SIMI, was rejected by the CBI court. The CBI court has directed the jail authorities to provide the under trial adequate security.
